At the Country Home Installation we provided a multi room system that would fit in with the features of this new build property. Maintaining a country home theme is a key factor to the success of this installation but also offering the maximum amount of flexibility of control around the house and two holiday cottages located within the property. The client was keen to have access to security cameras on all television screens that he supplied his own specification for. The use of iPhones as a method of control in the family bedrooms is a requirement.
Originally the brief was based on control and flexibility however as meetings continued we spoke about lighting control and the addition of a cinema to the system. The whole property including exterior zones and out buildings are controlled from a Lutron Homeworks 8 series processor which has been programmed to control all 108 circuits of lighting. Keypads have been placed logically and conveniently around the property and each programmed to control the requested zones and circuits. The lighting can also be controlled from one of the five Crestron TPS6x touchscreen remote controls. The Crestron remotes are conveniently located in the cinema, kitchen, master bedroom, study and games room. The cottages have been cabled with data and fibre services to allow integration in the future and benefit from the same products and services in High Definition as the main house. The Crestron has been programmed in such a way that it allows the user to select the single zone or multiple of zones that they would like the source active in. This will allow a far simpler approach when entertaining to select music to play throughout the property. The system also lets the clients know exactly which sources and products are in use by another user in the house.
The living room is the only screen not supplied by the customer and we opted to use the Bang & Olufsen BeoVision 10-46 LCD screen that is neatly wall mounted beside the fire place. The television is complete with 5.1 surround sound from a pair of BeoLab 8002 active speakers as fronts and BeoLab 6002’s as rears – the bass is handled by a BeoLab 2 subwoofer. The Bang & Olufsen is fully controlled by the Crestron system and can access any of the sources from the main AV racks. The games room is based around a 46” Sony LCD screen provided by the clients and has its own Crestron TPS6x for control. The audio is provided by four Artcoustic Mini Diablos, DF Multi center channel and powered by a Onkyo 5.1 receiver located in themain AV Rack. The bass is handled by a B&W PV1 in gloss black. To maintain the country residence look we specified a pair of Amina AIW5 speakers in both the dining room and kitchen.
The bedrooms, landing and hallway boast in ceiling speakers from B&W all located to provide the best audio reproduction whilst maintaining the aesthetic appeal of the room. The children’s rooms and guest bedrooms are all controlled by iPhone or iPod touch however one of the roaming TPS6x remote controls can also be used. When docked the TPS6x remote controls display the CCTV on screen to allow the client to see who is approaching the property. The CCTV can also be displayed on any of the display devices around the house.
The system is managed by two processors and a power over Ethernet gigabit switch to allow metadata from the six Crestron iPod docks, iPhone control and Kaleidescape to flow smoothly without slowing anything down. All video switching is carried out by a Vision HD 16×16 matrix and UTP baluns at the device end. Each screen has been enabled to have a full 1080p input from the main AV rack from a choice of sources including one of the Kaleidescape players and a choice of two Sky HD boxes. Audio distribution is managed by two Crestron BiPad 8 switches and powered by three Crestron Power amplifiers.
