The brief from the owner was simple and clear, the best performance and the best sound.
With the Owner’s comments from his previous yachts ‘it wasn’t loud or good enough’ ringing in their ears Dawson’s team set to and designed a bespoke system using unique products and considerable expertise from countless previous yacht installations. You’d think this would be easy to achieve but in the demanding environment on board a yacht, sadly this is not the case, and many yachts suffer from inadequate audio visual installations. Not so here, Dawson’s has produced a first class result in MY SIA.
This is definitely a party boat, as we discovered later, but not one that shouts about it. The Saloon boasts a Bang & Olufsen 55” BeoVision 7 television that’s hidden from view when not in use, on command the television rises by using a motorised lift up mechanism. The accompanying BeoLab 4000 speakers in the Saloon peek discretely from the headlining whilst focusing their sound toward the viewers and unseen BeoLab 2 subwoofers produce startling punch when required.
The Owners stateroom is equipped with a 46” BeoVision 10 television recessed into the bulkhead, controlling sources such as Satellite TV, iPod , Blu-ray and Audio sources. The TV’s built in speaker system is exquisite and just the addition of front and rear BeoLab 4000 speakers with hidden BeoLab 2 subwoofer is all that is required to produce stunning sound to complement the awesome picture perfectly.
Control of all the AV systems on the boat is from the familiar Beo6 handheld controller or from using tablet devices through the B&O master link gateway. You wouldn’t know initially but this yacht is also equipped with a centralised music server from Bang & Olufsen allowing the client to replay tunes all over the yacht and select from his media using the ‘Creation Controls’ iPad application.
It’s when you go ‘On Deck’ that you realise why Dawson’s has such a well-regarded reputation in the yacht AV industry, as we said this is a party yacht, though you wouldn’t know it at first glance. The installation sports an exterior sound system to rival that of most nightclubs.
Dawson’s specified fourteen 10” speakers, four 8” speakers and eight 8” subwoofers and coupled them to their unique amplifiers, each producing 250w/ch and powered by Bang & Olufsen’s IcePower technology. The amplifiers don’t even break into a sweat, even at full tilt, since their digital design is super-efficient. Just what you want on a yacht running off generators.
Using the modest Bang & Olufsen remote control the Captain remarked it’s possible to unleash a previously unheard of level and quality of sound. As we were listening to the superb sound on the Fly bridge he ramped up the volume, our breath was taken away by the sheer level attained without any hint of distortion, the deck was moving!.
Dawson’s has included independent pre-set control of each amplifier’s output, so sound is balanced over the whole yacht and produces a true audiophile experience in all locations. As if all this wasn’t enough the icing on the cake would have to be the outdoor TV on the aft deck, linked to the main saloon for TV and Movies.
